As much fun as it is to connect plastic bricks, the real magic of LEGO Camp will always be watching the children connect with each other.
“HICCUP!”
One camper, Major, had caught a stubborn case of the hiccups during free play.
“HICCUP!”
Avalon, another camper nearby, was instantly empathetic—because let’s be honest, absolutely nobody likes having the hiccups.
“HICCUP, HICCUP!”
Leaving her own half-built project, she wandered over to Major to offer some expert advice. She told him that her mom taught her a secret trick: put a paper towel over a cup of water, and drink straight through it to make the hiccups go away.
“HICCUP!”
With Avalon’s guidance, our volunteers helped Major try the paper towel trick. After a careful sip,

the hiccups were gone!
It was a simple moment, but one that stood out. Avalon saw that another camper needed help, shared something that had worked for her and Major was willing to give it a try.
Before long, they were both back to building their LEGO creations together.
LEGO Camp is always full of creativity and fun, but benign moments like these are just as meaningful. It’s in these moments the campers are building friendships, practicing kindness and learning that they can support one another in everyday ways.
