This Summer, Galen Culver from KFOR’s long-running segment, “Is This a Great State or What?!” came to our studio to cover the magic happening between our vocational film program and Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation (DDOK). 

For the past few months, Invisible Layers Productions has been working hard on our second collaboration video with DDOK, which is meant to empower, encourage and offer advice to people with developmental disabilities who have dental-related anxieties so that they can have a more positive dental experience and better oral health outcomes. 

Galen Culver of KFOR, Kate Krodel from Gooden Group and Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation Director Terrisa Singleton-Smith came to the studio during ILP’s normal meeting time. The group of adult filmmakers on the spectrum introduced themselves to their guests, conversing about their excitement, their passion as filmmakers and expressing love for the program that brought them together. 

“I say they’re my best friends, but they’re really my family,” our filmmaker, CJ, said.

When the filming started, they were unfazed by the cameras in the room—cracking jokes, playing with each other, smiling widely and laughing loudly as if it were any other ILP meeting. They were eagerly on standby, ready to jump in if Galen needed a hand with his equipment, lighting his scenes or navigating through the studio.

Our ILP Co-Director, Sarah Lauffenburger, and one of our filmmakers, Quinci, agreed to be interviewed by Galen. The filmmakers watched as their teammates had their moments in the limelight, applauding their performances after the fact. 

After two hours of filming, interviewing, chatting and laughing, Galen packed up his gear and we took a goofy group photo and said goodbye to our guests.

Our filmmakers were featured on KFOR’s “Is This a Great State or What?!” segment on Monday, July 27 at 5:00 p.m.
