LEGO Camp has always been one of Dillon’s favorite programs. A dedicated volunteer, he shows up to every camp as both a LEGO-building and friendship-building buddy. This month was no different. As the room filled with the familiar clatter of plastic bricks and the excitement of campers choosing their stations, Dillon noticed something important—little Elinor was sitting quietly by herself.

Without hesitation, Dillon joined her. They began building their own projects side by side, chatting as they worked. Dillon started constructing a house, and before long, Elinor offered to help. He happily said yes, and that’s when the magic really began. What started as a humble, plastic-brick home quickly grew into something extraordinary. With Elinor’s imagination, the build expanded to include a pool, a game room, a printer, a barn full of animals, a playground and so much more. Every new addition was the result of teamwork, creativity and shared joy.

As their project came together, Elinor looked up at Dillon and softly asked, “Do you want to be my new friend?”

Dillon didn’t miss a beat. “Absolutely, I would love to be your new friend!”

For Dillon, the interaction was more than just a successful build; he described the moment as deeply heartwarming—one of those experiences that reminds you what genuine connection feels like. It’s the kind of moment that happens when you’re with true friends in a community where everyone belongs, like the AutismOklahoma community.

And the story doesn’t end there. Elinor is already looking forward to the future LEGO Camps, where she can build, create and spend more time with her new friend Dillon.

Your child or teenager can experience the magic of connection at our summer LEGO Camps, running every Thursday in June. Registration is required and costs $10, but we want every builder to join the fun—families in need can email info@autismoklahoma.org to confidently request a fee waiver.
