As a mother of a child with autism, it has been an interesting journey finding the right dentist for my son. Our history with dentists has often been more a face-off than a visit.

After-bath experiences can be very interesting sources of interaction between parents and their child with autism. Let me give you an example of what happened to us last week.  Our son loves to take a luxurious bath, get dry and then dash out of the bathroom in his birthday suit, shrieking and making the best of his few minutes of nudism. One ordinary Tuesday night, after bath time, Kyle (and I) began to gear up for his flight to freedom.

I often hear how I spend every waking moment reading any and everything I can find about autism. Jaymee’s older brother and sister are often quick to remind me of the hours spent running her to numerous therapies.

The other night I was sitting on my bed pondering the craziness that is my life. In fact, I often wonder if my daily life experiences are real or just a figment of my imagination.

As with many children on the spectrum, Jaymee goes through ‘good cycles’, ‘bad cycles’, and the ‘you would not believe' cycles.  Getting together with others who are in similar situations has always helped me deal with these ups and downs.
